Some of the Most Interesting Interior Designs in the World

We’ve all seen at least one room that has left us breathless with interior decorator envy. We’ve probably also seen at least one other room that makes us glad that we don’t have to live there. There are some designers in the world that are genuinely drawn to shock value, and will do whatever it takes to get public exposure. Fortunately for many of us, this produces some very interesting spaces.

It takes more than just some color, paint, and well-placed furniture to turn an ordinary room into a work of art. It takes real vision, and a complete lack of fear to create something that’s truly extraordinary. Great furniture helps, but only when it’s strategically placed and paired.

One of the most interesting looks happens when a decorator mixes classic looks with a more modern flare. This gives us something to look at from nearly every perspective, and opens us up to the possibility of the successful melding of the old and the new. Many people try out some of these looks on a smaller scale within their own homes with a great deal of success. There’s a certain charm to pairing an Eames style lounge chair with a vintage Oriental rug. Consider some of these more extreme looks next time you feel the need to redecorate:

The Skater Home

This is a home entirely planned around having someone skateboard off of nearly every surface. It is designed to accommodate a wide variety of different skating techniques and different levels of force associated with tricks usually performed at an outdoor skate park. This house is being built in Malibu for a well-known professional skater, and boasts round walls and a flawlessly smooth floor. Everything from steep ramps to traditional stairs have been built into every room, making this an absolute paradise for those who enjoy extreme sports.

The Thin House

In Poland, there is a tiny sliver of white that sits between two traditional homes along a street. This sliver measures at only 152cm at its widest points, and houses a gentleman in a very unique way. This home is made so that each room is directly on top of the other. It takes up very little space while still offering adequate room for living. A series of ladders and hatches allows him to move freely from room to room without requiring more space for stairs. The home itself is sparsely decorated and stays true to form with its interior furnishings.

The Transparent House

This is an interesting concept designed to bring its inhabitants closer to nature. This is a home built in Japan that is made up of entirely see through materials. The walls to the outside offer a direct window into everything that goes on within the home. All of the interior walls are also clear, and the interior has a very clean and antiseptic look. This house is on a fairly busy street, and is “open” to all public viewers. This is a very interesting concept, with barely any privacy.

A Modernized Church

This is a beautiful melding of the old and the new, and offers a unique surprise for anyone coming in from the outside. Upon first glance, this church in the Netherlands appears to be a classically built structure. As you walk in, you are greeted with an entirely modernized living space. The walls are a bright shade of white, and the furniture is almost space-aged in some ways. This is such an interesting comparison that it draws visitors from all over the world.
